Explore the wonders of Aqaba Gulf in the glass-bottom boat. You can stay on the boat and watch the fish through the boat bottom, or you can join an excursion that includes snorkeling.

Dive deep into the heart of Aqaba’s wealth of Coral and brilliantly coloured fish and enjoy the best diving experience in the world. Aqaba has a number of well-equipped dive centers with qualified staff.

Take a sunset cruise or try the delights of a barbeque at sea, if you go for the sunset option don not forget your camera; your friends back home will never believe your descriptions of Aqaba’s spectacular end of day beauty.

Visit the Islamic city of Ayla, A thriving urban center between 7th and 11th centuries and now in the heart of Aqaba’s seafront hotel distract. It was once the “Port of Palestine and the store house of the Hejaz”. Ayla was also as important stopping place for Egyptian pilgrims on their way to Mecca. Today, you can see the remains of City walls, gates, a large mosque and other buildings. The site is well marked and has information panels detailing its history and importance.

Visit the house of Sharif Hussein Bin Ali, where the great-great-grandfather of Jordan’s current King Abdullah II lived for six months after the First World War. Its rooms still house a collection of rifles, copper and silver bowls, coffee pots and mills, mansaf trays ( for Jordan’s traditional mutton and rich dish) and other typical items of the period.

Take a horse and carriage tour for another leisurely way to see the town, or see it from on high from the back of a camel.

Smoke a hubbly-bubbly, the narghile, or hubbly-bubbly, is a smoking experience with a difference that comes originally from India but has been used throughout the Middle East for the past 400-500 years. The narghile passes the smoke through water before it is inhaled. Smoking a narghile is never done in a hurry. Settle down with friends and enjoy the ritual as the tobacco is set on the pip and small piece of glowing charcoal is placed on top and then adjusted until it is at just the perfect temperature. The tobacco can be plain but apple, cherry and other fruit flavors are currently fashionable. Share the pipe or keep it all to yourself.

Your name in sand. In Aqaba, the sands of time are poured elegantly into small bottles to from desert scenes. Watch the craftsmen at work. If you have a special fancy in terms of colors or want to see your name, or that of family or friends, enshrined in sand, the craftsmen will be happy to oblige, giving you a souvenir that is truly unique.

Go back in time to the luxury of the Turkish bath, a combination of steam rooms, scrubbing and massage can take away all cares and leave you cleaner than you thought possible. The Aqaba Turkish Bath welcomes men and women, but bookings are needed to ensure female attendants are available for women visitors.
